High school junior makes date's gorgeous prom dress: 'Prince Charming...and fairy godmother'
After his date fell in love with a prom dress that was out of her price range, an Indiana high school junior decided he would make it himself, entirely from scratch, even though he had never sewn anything before.
It was February when Addi Rust, a senior at Pendleton Heights, jokingly said to her friend and date, Parker Smith, "Why don't you just make my prom dress!" After sharing a laugh over the thought, Parker said, "You know what, I think I could actually make your prom dress," according to FOX59.
Now, after months of work, and a few tips from his grandmother, Parker has created a beautiful and unique dress which nearly brought Addi to tears.
Taking a minute to brag on this man because I think this is the coolest thing that I’ve ever been a part of. Parker MADE my prom dress. Straight from scratch did the whole thing and I am still speechless. I’m so lucky to have him as my best friend!?? pic.twitter.com/z6Woa66uLQ

"I think this is the coolest thing that I’ve ever been a part of," Addi shared on Twitter. "Parker MADE my prom dress. Straight from scratch did the whole thing and I am still speechless. I’m so lucky to have him as my best friend!"
Quite a journey, but the first thing I’ve ever sewn (a prom dress) has been finished, just in time for the ball! Not only did I get the honor of being the Prince Charming to the beautiful @AddiRust, but her fairy godmother as well, haha! I’m so thankful for her. (From scratch?) pic.twitter.com/amr05PZBbp

According to Parker, making the dress — from designing it to the creating final product, which he was adding more gems to straight up until the night before prom — it was "quite the journey."
"Not only did I get the honor of being the Prince Charming to the beautiful [Addi], but her fairy godmother as well," he joked on Twitter. "I’m so thankful for her."

While this is Parker's first design, and the first thing he had ever sewn, it won't be his last. He has already designed his next dress and plans to study costume design and musical theater in college. He hopes that one day he will become a Broadway costume designer.
