High School Sweethearts Reunite After 60 Years, Marry at Age 80

From the first moment he set eyes on her during study hall at Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, in 1955, Bob Harvey was smitten with Annette Adkins.

“When she walked through the door, I looked and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, here is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life,’” Harvey recalled to Inside Edition. “I fell totally 100% lifetime soulmate in love with this woman.”

They ended up attending prom together, and despite their strong feelings for each other, lost touch and eventually married other people.

But Harvey never forgot about Adkins. After his wife died in 2017, he did a Google search for Adkins, who, it turns out, had lost her husband.

So, he sent her a card with his phone number, and after chatting for a bit, made the 500-mile trip to visit her in Ohio. Adkins said they reconnected immediately.

"She opened the door and my heart jumped out. I walked over, I handed her some flowers, I took her face in my hands, I said, 'You're beautiful. I love you,'" Harvey told Inside Edition.

Earlier this month, 63 years after the high school sweethearts went their separate ways, Harvey and Adkins, now both 80, were married at Nutcracker Family Restaurant in Pataskala, Ohio. At the '50s-style diner, they danced to Johnny Mathis, just like they did at prom all those decades ago.

The couple told the Newark Advocate that they credit a higher power for their reunion. “We both feel the Lord is instrumental in getting us back together," Harvey said. "We pledged to love each other until 'The Twelfth of Never'."

Congrats, Bob and Annette!
