On Monday, Hilaria shared on Instagram that she suspected she was suffering a miscarriage.
Hilaria went public with her miscarriage in hopes of removing the stigma surrounding miscarriage.
Over the past few days, Hilaria Baldwin has been publicly sharing that she suspected she was having a miscarriage. Now, she’s revealed that her fears were correct: She miscarried her fifth child.
In a new Instagram post Tuesday night, Hilaria broke the news to her followers: “There was no heartbeat today at my scan...so it’s over...but I have some pretty strong and amazing heartbeats right here,” Hilaria captioned the photo herself with her husband Alec Baldwin and their four children. “I am surrounded by such love and I feel so fortunate.”
Hilaria then thanked her fans “for listening, for your support, and for sharing your own personal stories. We are stronger together.”
Hilaria first shared the news on Instagram that she thought she was miscarrying late last week. "I want to share with you that I am most likely experiencing a miscarriage," she captioned a photo of herself in her underwear, touching her stomach. "I have always been so open with you all about my family, fitness, pregnancies...and I don't want to keep this from you, just because it isn't as positive and shiny as the rest."
She went on to explain what exactly was happening in her body: "So, this is what is going on now: the embryo has heartbeat, but it isn't strong, and the baby isn't growing very much," she continued. "So we wait-and this is hard. So much uncertainty...but the chances are very, very small that this is a viable pregnancy." Hilaria said she decided to post about her experience to help "normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it."
Hilaria went on TODAY Tuesday to talk more about her “likely” miscarriage, and said she wants to be open about it to try to help other women. “As women, we're trained to deal with it silently," Hilaria said. "You're definitely not supposed to say anything before 12 weeks, and some of that is because people are superstitious, or that's how they feel they're going to be stronger, and a lot of it, for other people is from fear. I don't think we have to live with such fear."
"I'm pretty sure this is not going to stick," she said, adding that she knows that a miscarriage wouldn't be her fault. "We need to be a little bit more forgiving of ourselves."
Hilaria isn’t alone: About 10 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage, per the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
She ended Wednesday's Instagram post on this note: “I hope this conversation continues to grow and that we stick together through both the beautiful and challenging moments in life. Much love and appreciation to all of you.”
