Hoda Kotb Becomes Emotional While Discussing 'Difficult Time' Parenting

Hoda Kotb recently sat down with Savannah Guthrie to discuss her latest book, during which Kotb revealed the read helped her navigate "difficult" parenting moments.

The emotional conversation about Guthrie's book, Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere, occurred on Wednesday during the fifth season premiere of Kotb's podcast Making Space.

In the book of essays, Guthrie, 52, delves into how faith has played a crucial role in Guthrie's life. But for Kotb, 59, she said a reread gave her hope and trust in her own parenting of her two daughters: Haley Joy, 7, and Hope Catherine, 4.

“You know, what’s funny, I read the book when you first sent [it] to me — chapter by chapter,” Kotb said.

“And I reread it last night when I was going through a difficult time with my daughter and I was worried, ‘Am I enough? Am I doing it right?'" she continued as her voice broke.

“It’s so interesting because there is a part in here that — I don’t remember where it is now because I have so many dog ears — but it makes a parallel on how God loves us like how we love our own children,” the mother of two explained while overcome with emotion.

“I had already read that, by the way, a few months ago and it didn’t hit me but it hit me last night like it was meant for me in that moment," Kotb concluded.

Guthrie, who shares children Vale, 9, and Charley, 7, with her husband, Michael Feldman, sympathized with Kotb and described becoming a mother as "a revelation on every single level," adding that the vulnerability of being a parent can be "totally terrifying."
