Hoda Kotb Gives Update on Daughter Hope 5 Months After Health Scare
Hoda Kotb is letting fans know that her daughter Hope is still on the up and up after suffering a health scare earlier this year.
Back in February, Kotb's then-3-year-old daughter became ill and was admitted to the hospital, where she spent several days in the intensive care unit. At the time, the journalist—who shares Hope and older daughter Haley, 6, with ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman—was absent from the Today show for weeks.
Hope, who has since turned 4, is "on the mend" according to her mom, who announced her new book, Hope is a Rainbow, during Wednesday's episode of the Today Show.
"I wrote this a while ago, before Hope was, you know, got sick and is on the mend and all that stuff," Kotb said, while giving viewers the first look at the book. "It was based on my daughter, who of course I had dreamt of her and hoped for her and her name just fell in."
"It just reminds me — and she just reminds me — that hope is all around every corner. No matter what you go through, no matter what hardship you endure, there she is."
In March, the Today show co-anchor returned to her usual spot on the morning program, where she revealed the reason she'd been missing from the show for two weeks.
"My youngest, Hope, was in the ICU for a few days and in the hospital for more than a week. I’m so grateful she’s home," Kotb, 58, said at the time. "She is back home … and we are watching her closely."
"When your child is ill, the amount of gratitude you can have for people who helped you out," she added, getting a little emotional. "I’m grateful to the doctors and nurses, I’m grateful to my family and I’m grateful to friends like you [Savannah Guthrie] who were there every single day. I love you.”
Hope is a Rainbow will hit bookshelves in 2024. You can pre-order your copy at today.com/books.
