Next season of Dancing with the Stars is going to be fierce.
Tyra Banks is set to take over as host and executive producer for the popular ABC series, which was previously led by Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. The 46-year-old model announced the exciting news earlier today in a press release and revealed that she couldn’t be more thrilled to bring her “Smize” expertise to the ballroom stage.
“I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning. The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances…it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up ten notches on the catwalk,” Banks said, according to People magazine. “Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”
The news comes just one day after Bergeron and Andrews confirmed they were parting ways with DWTS. Although it’s a bittersweet goodbye, it was the right move for the network, according to Karey Burke (president of ABC Entertainment).
“As we gear up for the show’s 29th season, we can’t wait to welcome Tyra Banks to our Dancing stage,” she said in a statement. “Tyra is an award-winning multihyphenate whose fierce female prowess and influence across many industries have made an indelible mark. Her fresh take on America’s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a ‘Smize’ to fans everywhere.”
DWTS is right up Banks’s alley, since her widely popular show, America’s Next Top Model, ended in 2018. Not only did she create the reality competition, but she also served as host for 23 of the 24 seasons. NBD.
