'In My Household, We Inhale Doritos and Pizza—So, I Tried Papa John’s New Doritos Cool Ranch Papadia and I Have *Thoughts*'
I have a confession to make: my love for Doritos and pizza knows no bounds. And if I’m being honest, in my household, we inhale Doritos and pizza. What’s a movie night without those two combos? There is nothing quite as satisfying as licking the Dorito dust off your fingers and savoring the cheesy deliciousness of a slice of pizza.

What is the Doritos Cool Ranch Papadia?
While 2020 was an atrocious year for many, Papa John’s introduced a menu item called the Papadia, which takes inspiration from Italian piadina sandwiches. It features a combination of original Papa John’s crust and various toppings, resulting in a pizza sandwich fusion. This newest addition to the Papadia family combines its signature flatbread-style sandwich with the “cool” flavors of Doritos? Cool Ranch?.
Papa John’s says that the new Papadia is made to order and filled with the customer’s choice of chicken, beef, steak or other toppings if you want a vegetarian option. It’s then toasted and dusted with the bold ranch seasoning with a choice of dipping sauce.

My honest review
Don’t judge me, but I’m usually a plain Jane pizza kind of gal. I always order plain cheese pizza because how can you mess that up? Because of that, I was skeptical if this was truly "the best idea ever" or a miss. After trying (scarfing) down one chicken and one steak Papadia, it was definitely not the latter.
As the name suggests, the Cool Ranch seasoning takes center stage in this Papadia. The seasoning is applied to the crust (generously, may I add). When I took the first bite, the Cool Ranch seasoning was immediately noticeable, delivering a bold taste that is reminiscent of the classic chip. I can’t stress enough that they did not fail to make sure the seasoning was present. You know that Doritos dust that gets on your fingers? It’s the same for this sandwich.
The seasoning pairs well with the other ingredients in the Papadia, such as cheese, meat of your choice (I had one with steak and one with chicken), and vegetables of your choice. The Cool Ranch flavor does not overpower the other toppings; it complements and enhances the overall taste, especially the crust.
The texture and consistency of the Doritos Cool Ranch Papadia is a perfect balance between soft and crispy. The crust, made from the same dough as Papa John's pizza crust, is folded in half and toasted to a crispy golden brown, giving it a satisfying crunch when you take a bite. The crust also has a slightly chewy texture on the inside, which adds a nice contrast to the crispy exterior.
It is worth noting that this Papadia might be too tangy for those who prefer milder flavors. If you’re not a fan of Cool Ranch, I’ll say to stay clear because the flavor is bold. However, if your go-to Doritos flavor is Cool Ranch, then you’re going to want to try this sandwich.
Scout's honor, you won’t be disappointed.
