How to Throw Shade in 5 Easy Steps With 'RHoA'
On Sunday night, The Real Housewives of Atlanta gave a near perfect lesson in throwing shade. If you’re unfamiliar with this common social construct, Urban Dictionary defines it as “to talk trash about a friend or (sic) aquaintance, to publicly denounce or disrespect.” When Kenya invites the ladies for cocktails and pedicures on her boat, Porsha brings along her friend Shamea, who, if you remember, threw a little shade at Kenya back at her product launch. Once shade is thrown in Atlanta, it is not forgotten, because Shamea’s impromptu arrival on the boat was not welcome by Kenya, who, through a gritted, if pearly, smile, told Porsha, “Oh yeah, cause usually if you’re invited, you don’t invite other people.”
Shamea was not about to catch that shade Kenya was throwing, and attempted to throw her own shade back, which sat less well with Kenya than her being there in the first place. Kenya pulled rank, whipping back with “You don’t come for the queen, honey. I’m gonna have the captain escort you off my boat,” which very well may go down in Bravo history as the greatest thing ever said by a housewife.
