Hugh Hefner Had an "Intimate" Funeral
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner passed away on Sept 27, and was laid to rest on Saturday in an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles.
TMZ reports that only Hugh's closest friends and family were on hand for the ceremony at Westwood Village Memorial Park. Hugh's four children, his wife Crystal, and some "key Playboy staffers" attended the small funeral.
As previously reported, the Hef's crypt is next to Marilyn Monroe's.
Author Sady Doyle wrote in her book, "Trainwreck: The Women We Love to Hate, Mock, and Fear . . . and Why," about the problems with Hugh being buried next to Marilyn:
Hugh Hefner, the man who’d leaked Monroe’s nudes in the first issue of Playboy decades before the phrase 'leaking nudes' was even in the lexicon–he became an instant celebrity; she had to apologize for the photos, and feared for her career–bought the crypt next to Monroe’s for $75,000. It was a gruesome joke, “sleeping with” the woman he’d almost ruined, and doing so without her consent–claiming her in death, as he’d claimed the right to exploit her in life.
Former Girls Next Door cast member, Kendra Wilkinson, defended Hugh being buried next to Marilyn in an extensive tweet rant, which included the thought that Marilyn should be "honored" to be buried next to Hugh.
Many celebrities are buried at the Westwood Village Memorial Park, including Farrah Fawcett, Merv Griffin, Roy Orbison, Bettie Page, and Rodney Dangerfield.
