ST. LOUIS – The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis headquarters on Kingshighway gathered Tuesday for its newest addition.

“We are the first and only urban league in America to have to have its own greenhouse and hydroponic farming units at its headquarters,” Michael P. McMillan, Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis president & CEO, said.

This garden is planting seeds of hope in an urban farm that will grow fruits and vegetables, offering opportunities for parts of the city. The addition was funded by the state of Missouri.

“I want to make sure some kid gets the same opportunity, I want some kid to understand where food comes from,” Governor Mike Parson said.

Containers were turned into a state-of-the-art garden.

“The beauty about that container is we can grow between 3-5 acres worth of produce…only using five gallons of water a day,” Demetrious Bledose of Fresh Harvest 365 said.
