Iconic Designer Pierre Cardin Has Died at Age 98

Iconic fashion designer Pierre Cardin has died at age 98. On Tuesday morning, news broke that Cardin had passed away in a hospital in Neuilly, France.

"It is a day of great sadness for all our family. Pierre Cardin is no more... We are all proud of his tenacious ambition and the daring he has shown throughout his life," Cardin's family said in a statement, per the BBC.

Pierre Cardin was born in 1922 in Italy, but spent most of his youth in Saint Etienne, France, where he later established himself as a force within in the fashion world. After working with high-profile brands like Christian Dior, Cardin created his own label in 1950, and became known for his avant-garde style. It wasn't long before he was dressing celebrities like Lauren Bacall and The Beatles.

To commemorate his death, the official Pierre Cardin Instagram account shared a quote from the legendary designer: "I have always worked in my own style, which is different from all others. It was always my intention to be different, because that is the only way to last."
