'You most likely saved her life': Police post warning after catching woman driving over 100 mph in snow
Although the state of Illinois is already facing life-threatening weather conditions, it seems that one woman didn’t let the dangerous weather slow her down, as she was arrested after driving 115 mph in a 35 mph zone on snowy roads.
The Illinois State Police took to its Facebook page Monday morning to post a photo of the citation given to the woman, who was clocked driving 115 mph, and include a warning to residents.
“If you think we don’t patrol in town, you’re mistaken,” the Facebook post read. “And if you think you won’t get in a bad crash in town because the speed limits are low and you’re a good driver, think again. Just remember there are people like this driving next to you.”
In the comment section, the police noted that the woman was arrested and jailed on Monday night, adding the hashtag #ThatsGoToJailSpeed.
The Illinois State Police didn’t immediately provide Yahoo Lifestyle with updated information on the arrest. According to Illinois’s speeding laws, however, the driver is likely facing a class A misdemeanor charge, which carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a maximum of $2,500 in fines.
By the looks of the over 600 comments on the post, it seems that most people are outraged over the woman’s driving and happy that an officer caught her speeding and put her in jail.
“Thank you for taking this extremely reckless person off the streets and I hope the judiciary in your State takes this as serious as it should be taken. People who drive like this should have their driving privilege permanently revoked with no exceptions,” one person wrote.
Others are simply baffled that she was even able to go that fast, considering all of the snow on the roads.
“Curious what Illinois road is in good enough shape to go that fast,” someone said. “She’s lucky to have been stopped before something terrible happened. You most likely saved her life last night,” wrote another.
