Iām a home editor, and these are my favorite gifts to give and receive for the holidays
Last chance: Treat yourself ā or someone else ā to some of the internet's finest (many on sale, to ship in time for Christmas).
As one of ten siblings, several of whom have their own kids, I have an exhaustive list of people to shop for around the holidays ... and thatās not counting parents, friends and extended relatives. Luckily, I also happen to shop, research and test home and cooking items for a living, which means Iām usually pretty good at deciphering ā and particularly excited about passing on ā the holiday home gifts that are worth someone's hard-earned money.

Need a little inspiration for your personal list or lucky giftees? From cozy throws to swanky cocktail glasses, sleek appliances, timeless cookware and some of my favorite food gifts for last-minute visits and deliveries (get it there by Christmas, or at least New Year's Eve), read on for a mix of beautiful, versatile, practical ā and downright delightful! ā gifts I plan to give (or have gifted historically) to hosts, friends, coworkers and family, along with a few surprises and personal wish list items Iām hoping to receive.
Quick note: Because I love a good deal as much as anyone, Iāve made a note of discounts available at time of publication, some of them offering savings of up to 50% off (including my beloved faux fur throw). Click through the purchase links to gauge delivery timelines (some brands are offering next-day and 2-day shipping options and you can get Amazon items faster with Prime), and if there's an even better deal for you.
Home editor picks: bedding and bath gifts
First up: this bestselling throw from Pottery Barn. I own several of them and have gifted them to almost everyone I know. Itās stylish, comfy and reversible (offering two textures and looks in one). Scoop it up in one of four shades ā the creamy Ivory and soft Gray go with everything. Want more info? Check out my dedicated ode here.
If you prefer faux fur, it doesnāt get much plusher than this. Itās soft and smooth, with varying shades for added interest and depth, and makes the most humdrum home feel like a luxurious cabin escape. I gifted this to several people last year and personally like layeingr the Mocha version on my bed ā and the matching pillows on my sofa ā every winter for a simple, yet cozy update.
We spend about a third of our lives in bed, and these (which I received as a gift) are one of my favorite indulgences for getting a good nightās sleep. This is my second season with them and theyāre just as soft as ever ā with minimal pilling compared to other flannel options ā plus the Gradient Plaid pattern (I also like the Grey Windowpane) is just so classic and chic. (For a more budget-friendly option, check out Thresholdās Flannel Sheet Set, which I also own in Gray and Ivory Windowpane.)
These ribbed towels turn any olā bathroom into a high-end spa. They're made from 100% organic cotton for a softer feel and quick drying. I gifted them to my brother and sister-in-law last holiday and theyāve been getting good use out of them (read: raving about them) ever since. Threshold also has a less-splurgy top-rated ribbed towel, great for the new homeowner, college student or teen on your list.
The waffle robe has been trending for a while now, and this option from The Citizenry is one of the most thoughtful designs Iāve gifted/seen. Not only is it beautiful ā with a lightweight yet still warm texture, a collar for comfort and pockets for added convenience ā itās crafted from 100% organic Turkish cotton and certified fair trade. Available in a range of shades, it's perfect for the new or seasoned mom, beloved daughter and anyone else who could use some pampering. (Get the look for less with this popular waffle robe from Turquaz.)
Home editor picks: cleaning and vacuum gifts
These arenāt just regular sponges, theyāre cool sponges ā a favorite among Yahooās readers and shopping editors. Theyāre tough on grease and soap scum yet soft enough that they donāt scratch, and theyāre now available in an adorable, discounted gift pack. Grab a set as a stocking stuffer, for a holiday host, or a white elephant exchange (I also scooped up some Scrub Mommies as a little something for a few friends and coworkers). Theyāre a great deal (plus they're on sale, with an extra coupon code for new customers) and they sold out on the Scrub Daddy website, so Iād suggest jumping on this deal (bonus points if you throw in some festive hand soap or cleaning must-haves).
For a fancier hand soap set, I love gifting this kit, Winter Berry, Winter Forest and Spiced Chestnut being among the brandās signature seasonal scents. Theyāre prime for hosts and/or last-minute visitors (perhaps one particular in-law?), and the package doesnāt necessitate any wrapping ā just add a bow and go! Iāve also been known to tap Grown Alchemistās Hand Wash for a more minimalistic ā and slightly more rugged ā approach.
Bissellās small but mighty Little Green used to be one of my best-kept secrets for rejuvenating carpets and other upholsteries. Now, the whole world knows how great it is. I gifted one to myself after sifting through thousands of positive reviews and getting the nudge from a friend who considers it a savior for pet owners and new moms (my own review here). Because itās so compact, itās especially ideal for apartment dwellers (see also: heat and steam versions for especially tough jobs).
This Amazon-famous cordless vac has managed to capture the hearts of more than 165,000 reviewers and countless Yahoo readers for its high-powered suction, durability and uber-handy accessories (it comes with a carrying box for stashing, too). Grab it for a new or attentive car owner (like the adult nephew I gifted it to this year). Extra street cred if you throw in some top-rated towels or Amazonās favorite cleaning putty.
If you or your giftees have a flair for, or obsession with, cleaning, you'd be hard pressed to come up with a more joy-ful purchase than this. I had this on my list but jumped the line after seeing my sister-in-law's in action. Just fill the bucket, dip and wring ... dare I call it fascinating? It comes with reusable microfiber pads (so you wonāt need to be consistently purchasing and discarding single-use wipes) and itās super lean ā perfect for those who canāt lift heavy things or lack storage space.
Considering a big-time gift that's sure to impress (at least when it comes to the cleaning enthusiast on your list)? You're looking at it. Last time I checked, the bestselling V8 Absolute ā which promises to trap 99.99% of microscopic particles as small as 0.1 microns for cleaner floors and air ā was marked down almost 50%, making it the ideal time to cut the cord. I personally purchased this for my sisterās family this year as a combined housewarming and Christmas gift. (See also: the Dyson Animal Vacuum for an upright option, on sale at time of publication.)
Home editor picks: home fragrance and decor gifts
P.F. is one of my favorite sources for high-quality candles made with 100% plant-derived, natural soy wax and free of formaldehyde, parabens and phthalates. Iāve gifted the brandās Teakwood & Tobacco and Sandalwood Rose scents for friendsā birthdays and scooped up the Enoki Cedar (from the brandās new Alchemy collection) and Persimmon Cider (a classic) for gifting both male and female hosts and homebodies this season.
Iām big on hand towels as a way to freshen ā or festive! ā up your space with ease. And these playful patterns from SKL ā a no-brainer for hosts, coworkers, neighbors; anyone really ā happen to be wallet friendly. Certain styles have already sold out, though, so you'll need to act fast! I also adore these āMerryā towels from Pottery Barn and Target and, for a year-round, gender-neutral option, this waffle-weave set from Amazon and reversible pick from Baggu (all of which Iāve owned and gifted).
Thereās something about receiving a nice picture frame that feels special, especially when it comes bearing a favorite memory. This rope-style version from Pottery Barn ā available in gold and silver ā looks more expensive than it is and melds with a range of aesthetics. I recently purchased a few on sale for newlywed friends, but theyād also make a good gift for parents, in-laws and families (see also: the Williams Sonoma Aerin collection for a whimsical touch and Room Essentialās nine-frame gallery set for something a bit more artsy, especially great for teens).
This art deco basket from Threshold has been flying off Target's shelves ā and for very good reason. Itās roomy (enough to fit two throw blankets), sleek (available in two bold finishes) and high-quality (made of durable wire that wonāt bend easily). And at only $25, a mere fraction of what competitors charge for similar styles, the price canāt be beat. I purchased one of only a few left at a local(ish) Target store as a gift for my newly apartment-dwelling niece.
This highly rated modern vase, striking the balance between classic and contemporary, is one of my top picks for yet another gift that makes a statement without draining your savings. Fill it with flowers for a welcome host gift or wrap it up and give as is. (For ceramic vases and bowls, the West Elm Sanibel collection tends to be another hit.)
For a smaller token of appreciation, consider a set of these polished yet practical tapered candle holders from World Market. I like gifting a pair with two sizes (one six-inch, one eight, for only $18 total) for added interest and dimension (prime for hosts and dinner parties!). I also like the brandās Bell Taper Candle Holders for a more modern silhouette or these bubble-style candle holders for something a bit more funky.
Home editor picks: cookware and appliance gifts
If you (or they) still donāt have an air fryer, Ninja is making it more tempting than ever with this new āFlexiBasket,ā which can be used to air-fry, air-broil, roast, bake, reheat and dehydrate for whipping up meals in a (perfectly textured) flash. For added versatility, you can use the cooking area to cook one meal at full capacity, or separate the āMegaZoneā into two baskets to prepare two different items at once. Iām gifting this to my parents this year. (And if they're set on the air fryer, give them the gift of ice cream whenever they want with the TikTok-viral Ninja Creami; editor review here and more ice cream ideas below).
Nordic Ware sheet pans come highly recommended by chefs for their even heat distribution, durability and rust-proof shine. I own a set and use them for everything from baking flatbreads to sweet potatoes (and, from time to time, a killer stack of nachos). I grabbed a set this season to gift my parents as a complement to the air fryer (the brand's also released the cutest tree ornaments for the avid baker in your life).
Cast iron skillets are, quite simply, a cooking staple (ideal for inside and atop the oven; theyāre also great for camping and atop the backyard grill) ā and this one from Lodge just so happens to have Ina Gartenās stamp of approval. A great gift for a fellow foodie or outdoor lover (I gifted it to one of my brothers last season). What's that you say, they already have one? Then how 'bout a do-it-all pan or some shiny steak knives?
Le Creuset is pretty much the gold standard in cooking, with its glossy, enameled cast iron dutch ovens ā available in a rainbow of shades ā among the crĆØme de la crĆØme (shown in the original āFlameā). I own it, use it, cherish it, and also like to gift the brandās rectangular and square baking dish sets ā especially when theyāre on sale ā for a more cost-effective present that still wows. (For a lower price point or host gift, Crate & Barrelās Aspen Baker set is another crowd pleaser.)
Looking to splurge? Look no further than this chef-approved pot and pan set, which is at the top of my personal list. Itās on the pricier side, but itās nontoxic (meaning no harsh chemicals), nonstick (convenient) and comes in a spectrum of eye-catching coatings, so it will make for healthier cooking and eating while looking beautiful on the stove. Need a slightly less pricey option that still aims to please? I also recommend the brandās Bakeware Set (which I already own) and new Square Grill Pan.
Home editor picks: glassware and entertaining gifts
I received these cocktail glasses, also available in lowball and goblet form, as a gift from my sister last year (after giving her a proper hint) and am so glad I did because, well, theyāre magnificent. They turn the average evening into a special occasion and can be used for cocktails, mocktails and champagne (or even root beer floats; anything with a fizz!). I also like these wine glasses from Anthropologie for a pop of color. Up the ante with some pre-mixed Loverboy cocktails ā a dazzling hostess gift!
A proper whiskey drinker needs a proper set of glasses, and this stash from Kanars ā which comes highly rated ā is among my top gifting picks, especially when it comes to the dapper dude(s) in your life. If they already have glasses (or you just want to go beyond), show them you think they're top shelf with a monogrammed bottle of whiskey from Woodford Reserve.
For coffee drinkers and smaller gifts, you canāt go wrong with this handsome insulated cup from Yeti. Iāve gifted the rambler, as well as the stackable mug version, to siblings, coworkers and Secret Santas, and I use my own almost daily. I also rely on the Yeti chug-cap water bottle for staying hydrated at the gym, sports outings and at the beach (and for another popular pick, there's always the pour-overs and tumblers from Stanley).
If you really want to impress a coffee enthusiast, Ember's Temperature Control Smart Mug ā complete with a long-lasting battery and fancy Auto Sleep mode ā will go down smoothly. I secured one a few holidays ago for my sister and she still can't get enough of it. Last time I checked, the mug was available in three finishes, each on sale for nearly 25% off (for an even more accessible gift or stocking stuffer, Yahoo editors are obsessed with this warmer Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer base).
If you donāt have a cheeseboard or know of a giftee who needs one, Amazon reviewers are obsessed with this model from Smirly. I gave one ā backed by 15,000 reviews ā to my mom a while back, and itās super convenient. Special grooves along the sides hold crackers, and a secret drawer pulls out to reveal cheese knives for cutting and name plates for labeling. Also, it's fairly compact and so perfect for traveling and storing. (The brand also offers a bigger board with wings for heartier servings.)
I put this on my Christmas list two years ago after using one at a friendās place and have added more to my collection since. Itās a super stylish cutting board that's sustainable (made of 75% recycled plastic and 25% renewable sugarcane), healthy (BPA-free), durable, and comes in a sea of muted and bright hues. Thereās also a hole in the corner of the board for hanging from a hook for easy access. Great for budding chefs and anyone else who likes to have a little fun in the kitchen (discover more staff kitchen favorites).
Home editor picks: food and drink gifts
Speaking of cocktails and entertaining, Iād be remiss if I didnāt have a little vino on my list, and this is the year of the wine purse (or murse); yes, Iām calling it. Each of Julietās festive cylinders contains ten glasses of organic wine (2x more than the average bottle), stays fresh for four weeks after opening and the wine is responsibly sourced; boxes sustainably made. Feeling generous? Donnafugataās Dolce & Gabbana red ā which comes in an extravagantly patterned, ribbon-handled box ā is another great, slightly more lavish choice for indulging hosts and hostesses.
Every year, I also like to throw a few food gifts in the mix ā yummy treats that can be delivered to friends and family I wonāt be seeing in person ā and Levain's cookies are a New York delicacy. Theyāre crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside and about as rich and satisfying as a cookie can be. The legendary company also has a holiday assortment featuring its limited-edition Chocolate Peppermint flavor and a slightly larger selection.
For the cupcake lover, it doesnāt get much sweeter than Sprinkles, and the brandās holiday dozen boasts three Chocolate Peppermint, three Red Velvet, three Christmas Cookie and three Gingerbread cupcakes for their sampling pleasure. Have them delivered to surprise one of your favorite families (I've also been known to bring Sprinkles to gatherings); the brand also offers three- and six-count gift boxes for smaller parties!
Magnolia Bakery is known to many for their cupcakes, but itās always been the brandās Banana Pudding ā decadently creamy with a swirl of cinnamon ā for me. I plan on placing an order to split up among siblings this year (the brand is also offering a variety pack including a few Red Velvet blends, as well as pre-made cookies for holiday hosting and baking).
Handmade biscuits are another one of my go-tos for (savory) food deliveries and home visits, especially when I or guests plan to stay a few days, and this year Iām going with Callieās. The company was founded by Charleston, S.C. entrepreneur Carrie Morey (so female-owned), and their combo pack boasts five boxes of biscuits ā each a different flavor ā for a taste of the South whenever the craving hits.
For a more snackable option, Iām partial to the cheese and meat curations from Di Bruno Bros. (Iām also pretty well-versed on, and a bit biased toward, their products, considering I grew up in Philly.) The cheese spread sampler, which features several of the companyās bestsellers, is perfect for noshing during ā and after āthe holiday season. Iāve gifted similar sets to aunts and uncles, and try to grab an extra for unexpected guests (Iām also a fan of the Abbondanza Gift Box for bigger groups and appetites).
And when I really want to give the gift of Philly, nothing hits home quite like an authentic Patās cheesesteak. Goldbelly sells a cheesesteak four-pack, complete with rolls and a pouch of cheese whiz for the full hometown experience; see also: Buona Italian Beef (Chicago), Motorino Pizza and Rubirosaās Pasta Sampler (NYC) for more nationally treasured treats.
Home editor picks: subscriptions and experiences
If you or your giftee has a thirst for knowledge and expansion (but not necessarily a desire to leave), a subscription to MasterClass could be just the ticket. The educationāfocused platform offers an extensive library of over 250 expert-led courses, including many in cooking, interior design and other home and lifestyle categories. Learn or evolve a skill with the help of pros like Wolfgang Puck and Gordon Ramsay (Martha Stewart is also among those added recently.) Last time I checked, the company was running a BOGO subscription promotion ā one for a friend, one for me!
Last but not least, Iāve made an annual tradition of surprising my young nephews who live in another state with a case of Jeniās holiday-themed ice cream. And because I also see the value in getting out of the house from time to time, I invited them to visit me in NYC this year, where I'll be spoiling them with a trip the Sloomoo Institute and ā the cherry on top, a nearby stop ā Museum of Ice Cream. For another family-friendly idea, Iām surprising my younger niece with a similarly icy, slightly less messy batch of winter fun ā¦ a magical ice show starring everything Disney.
