As a former fashion designer who primarily focused on basics across categories, I’m now a major fashion snob when shopping for closest essentials. When I shop, I look for elevated details that many might look over. For a basic T-shirt, I’m looking at the finishings, fit, and fabric quality. It should come as no surprise that I have a pair of Levi’s on this list. The quality is always top-tier, and the denim comes in just about every wash, cut, and distress level you can imagine. But for the sake of what’s currently the best pick during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, I’ll focus on the 501 High-Waisted Crop Straight-Leg Jeans. They feature a high-waisted design and with a cropped hem that stops around the middle of the calf. They have a straight leg fit, come in a medium blue wash, and are available in sizes 24 to 31.

I’m not ashamed to say that I purchased the Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle Slide Sandal already—the deal is just too good to pass up. (I’m honestly considering picking up the matching Madrid Big Buckle Slide Sandal while they’re $35 off, too.) The Arizona Big Buckle Sandal has a cork-latex footbed that molds to the shape of your foot the more you wear it. It also has an eye-catching gold buckle with two adjustable straps. Beyond Yoga Ease Into It Midi Tank Dress

With temperatures in Maryland hitting a staggering 101 degrees, I wish I had this Beyond Yoga Ease Into It Midi Tank Dress in my rotation. It comes in pink and orange and features a classic crew neckline that can be popped on over the head and a body-skimming fit in sizes XS to XL. Made from a soft and breathable cotton blend, it has a hem that hits below the knee with aa slit that stops about mid-thigh.
