Amirah Kassem wants you to make every day your birthday-or at least make you bake as if it were. The New York City-based baker and founder of Flour Shop, known for her viral rainbow explosion cakes, is teaming up with Williams-Sonoma to release her first baking line. The collection includes everything from rainbow mini-spatulas and cake stands, to a build-your-own rainbow explosion cake kit.

The inspiration for the collection comes from Kassem’s own passion for entertaining and celebrating with friends and family. “Sometimes I feel like people buy really beautiful plates and china and they save them for that special occasion,” Kassem says. “I just embraced that birthday mode as a lifestyle, because if you can create that on one day, then you can create it every day.”

With its clean lines and bright hues, Kassem’s collection finds the balance between playful and chic. Pieces like the colorfully-rimmed dinnerware can be stacked on top of each other to form a refined rainbow or used on their own for an understated pop of color.

Kassem believes that a beautiful cake should never have to compromise on taste, and similar to her view on desserts, Kassem’s line is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. “We thought of things like the mini spatulas, which are used to mix all of the different cake layers, so you don’t have to wash the same spatula six times,” Kassem says. “Everything has to have a purpose.”

Perhaps the most anticipated part of Kassem’s new line is her rainbow explosion cake kit containing all of the colorful ingredients necessary to make your own version of the famous Flour Shop dessert. While most bakers would be hesitant to share their recipes, Kassem takes a different approach. Equipping her kit with the exact food dye, mix, and sprinkles that she uses in her flagship SoHo store, she hopes people will be inspired to create their own colorful confections and share in the baking experience together. As someone who's already had one, I can attest: they taste as good as they look.

Prices range from $5.95 for the cake scraper to $59.95 for the rainbow explosion cake kit; williams-sonoma.com
