Inside New Balance’s Hard to Get Basketcase Gallery Collab
More from Footwear News
New Balance was back with Basketcase Gallery earlier this month in what has become one of its hardest-to-get sneaker collaborations yet.
For their second tie-up, Basketcase took on the New Balance Minimus MT10 trail sneaker for an exclusive design that “showcases the blend of advanced footwear innovation from New Balance and Basketcase’s creative ethos, focused on community, artistry, and individuality.”
The collaborative style features hand-drawn tribal embellishments by artist Jamie, giving each pair a one-of-a-kind touch. Each pair was raffled off this month in the spirit of accessibility, the company said.
This collab follows the June release of the duo’s first project together. Available only during Paris Fashion Week Men’s at a pop-up in the Marais, Basketcase teamed up with New Balance on the footwear brand’s 1905 AD sneaker. The special customized version was characterized with a metal chain detail. On the end of the chain, a pendant with Basketcase’s logo swings back and forth on the heel.
Known for its emphasis on individuality, Basketcase Gallery aims to champion creativity, authenticity and community. In a statement, the gallery said that this collaboration “embodies Basketcase’s mission to connect art with everyday essentials, allowing members of the community to own a limited piece of wearable art that celebrates expression and inclusivity.”
Expect to see more collaborations from the duo next year, Basketcase confirmed.
This news comes as Footwear News gears up to honor New Balance as the Company of the Year at the 2024 FNAAs in New York City. New Balance couldn’t miss in 2024. Both its heritage and collaborative sneakers topped every must-have list. It even scored major Olympic moments with partners like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Gabby Thomas, and now, thanks to a new WNBA deal, New Balance will take a key role in one of the hottest sports leagues in America.
The FNAAs — often called the “Shoe Oscars” — honor the style stars and industry legends who have creatively defined the industry and provided fresh perspective, influential designs, compelling stories, business expansion and more.
The 2024 Footwear News Achievement Awards are supported by Listrak, Marc Fisher, Nordstrom and Vibram.
