Millie is already used to sharing her human parents with her brother Rupert, but now the pup has to contend with a baby in the house. Yet instead of feeling jealous or waking up the new baby with barks, Millie welcomes him with a lick and lays her face right on his onesie.
Fans are proud of Millie’s maternal welcome. “This is so precious, I knew Millie would be so maternal and sweet!!” one fan wrote in. Others agreed: “This video filled me with tears at the sheer cuteness and love from your beautiful dog with your adorable baby” and “She is such a good doggy and the baby is beautiful.”
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), it may be difficult for dogs to bond instantly when a new baby enters the picture. “When you bring a new baby home, your dog will face an overwhelming number of novel sights, sounds and smells. She may find some of them upsetting, especially if she didn’t have opportunities to spend time with children as a puppy,” according to the organization’s website.
To help prep your pup for a baby companion, the ASPCA recommends slowly adjusting your dog to its new lifestyle. After all, routines will change for them too! When the time does come to introduce dog and baby, “Choose a quiet room, and sit down with the baby in your arms. Have a helper leash your dog and bring her into the room. Again, avoid nervous or agitated behavior. Talk to your dog in a calm, happy voice as you invite her to approach.”
Let Millie’s sweet reaction be your dog family inspiration.
