The Internet Is Convinced This Model Is an Actual Barbie

There are some people we can simply look at for a quick second on social media, give their photos a swift double-tap, or like, and keep scrolling. Then, there is Duckie Thot. The Sudanese and Australian model recently posted a photo of herself on Instagram and Twitter posing in a black and gold gown, and the Internet is literally freaking out about how gorgeous she looks.

Thot captioned both photos, “Ducks after dark,” and has received over 60,000 likes combined on both social media platforms in a matter of days. People have been so enamored by her look that many are convinced that there’s no way she could even be a real person because she’s so perfect. “Literally thought you were a Barbie,” one person wrote. Another noted, “I almost scrolled past because I thought it was a picture of a Barbie doll. You’re so gorgeous.”

While fans are raising emoji praise hands left and right, this is not Thot’s first time in the spotlight. She was formerly a contestant on Australia’s Next Top Model gaining her lots of attention, and just last year, she garnered even more attention for calling out the fashion industry for ignoring black women’s hair. In an Instagram post she wrote, “I was extremely upset and embarrassed that they ‘didn’t know how’ to cornrow my natural hair when at the end of the day, that’s their job. I sat in front of the mirror silently crying before my shoot doing my own hair, sh** scared I was going to get eliminated because a few ‘hairstylists’ didn’t know how to do their job.” Her transparency enlightened so many because it outed an issue that’s been happening for far too long, and people were excited to see someone speaking up about it.

Also, previously in an interview with Teen Vogue, Thot shared her thoughts on the constant bullying women of color face about their natural hair. “Being a black woman, we haven’t really been taught how to take care of our natural hair — we’ve only been taught how to hide it,” she said. “I think hair companies, the media, hairstylists, and the industry itself are to blame. They haven’t made the same efforts to ensure black women are looked after in their most natural form. If you really think about it, it’s the black women on YouTube who have really held it down with their natural hair tutorials. I think [the industry] should really take ownership and start to invest into us.”
