Internet, Including Leah Remini, Reacts to 2023 Golden Globes' Scientology Dig

Jerrod Carmichael was not holding back tonight as he took jabs at Scientology and Tom Cruise while hosting the 2023 Golden Globes.

The 80th annual Golden Globes Awards were held tonight at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, and the 35-year-old comedian was not shy of any digs tonight.

As the show came back from a commercial break, Carmichael appeared on stage holding three awards in his hands. "Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned...I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige," he said. If you're not familiar, Miscavige is the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.

Viewers were quick to jump on social media to react to the comedian's sharp dig. 

One fan reacted with a meme of Ryan Gosling holding his hand up to his mouth as he chuckled.

"Somewhere Leah Remini is loving this," another user wrote, referring to the actress who left the Church of Scientology in 2013. 

To our surprise, the actress in question chimed in herself, and she was, in fact, loving it. "Thank you Jerrod Carmichael! Where is Shelly??" she wrote.

One user even shared a "missing person" poster for Miscavige.

"Jerrod that was below the belt . Tom Cruise worked so hard for this incredible show," another user wrote.

"On live television too. Go Jerrod! I mean he butchered the last name but hey! We’re all here for Shelly’s safe return anyway! Keep going!" another user added.
