The internet is living for this dog's spiky, neon-pink outfit to ward off coyotes

An Arizona woman was simply trying to protect her dog from coyote attacks when she dressed her in a neon pink kevlar vest with porcupine-like quills — aka a Coyote Vest. But when she tweeted a photo of the punk-rock pup, she inadvertently turned her pet into a meme.

The photo was posted by Amina Akhtar, a former fashion editor and the author of #fashionvictim, with the caption, “There’s a coyote outside. You know what that means: coyote vest time!” It shows Akhtar’s beloved Beanie in a sheepish pose while wrapped in the “pet body armor,” as Coyote Vest calls it.

For some, the image was all too relatable.

Others reacted with pure affection for the Mad Max-style pooch.

Even Conan sidekick Andy Richter chimed in with an endorsement.

But Beanie’s internet fame really took off when she became a meme. Her comic-book superhero look proved irresistible to Photoshop enthusiasts, especially for Hellraiser fans on Reddit.

One Reddit user cast Beanie as the fifth member of this ’80s goth group.

And a Twitter user made Beanie a walking hot dog — literally.

Jokes aside, the Coyote Vest is much more than a punch line. It was created by San Diego residents Paul and Pamela Mott after they lost their dog, Buffy, to a deadly coyote attack — something American pet owners deal with regularly in dry, desert-heavy places including California and Arizona. The vest is designed to ward off the wild animals — many even come with a shock collar — without harming the coyote or the dog.
