Internet Has a Visceral Reaction to Stephen Amell's 'Suits: L.A.' Casting

Fans of the law drama Suits have enjoyed a major resurgence of the show—and a spinoff series called Suits: L.A. was announced not long ago. But after the lead actor was finally revealed, people shared strong opinions about whether or not he was the right person for the role.
It was just announced that Stephen Amell, who people might recognize from shows like Arrow and Heels, would lead Suits: L.A. as the character Ted Black, described as "a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others.”
Well, it turns out that many people aren't fans of the choice, leading some to declare they won't be watching the show because of Amell's involvement.

In response to Variety's post about the news, one person responded, "They managed to luck out a resurgence of fans for the original series and went ahead to hire the most uncharismatic actor to lead the spin-off. It was so easy to not fumble this."
"And now I know for sure I WILL NOT BE WATCHING," wrote another, while a third bluntly replied, "Charismatic and Stephen Amell is an oxymoron."
Someone else said, "don’t ruin suits like this," alongside a fitting GIF.

Many fans of the original show brought up Amell's recent controversy regarding the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. The actor openly spoke about his television shows at a convention before saying that he "does not support striking."
After major backlash from both fans and people in the industry, Amell shared an apology in a since-deleted Instagram update, attempting to "clarify" what he said, "to ensure there is no misunderstanding about my thoughts and intentions."
"My off the cuff use of the word 'support' is clearly contradictory to my true feelings and my emphatic statement that I stand with my union. Of course I don’t like striking. Nobody does. But we have to do what we have to do," he stated.
These past actions seem to be a factor in why some fans don't agree with his casting in Suits: L.A., while others just don't think he's right for the role.
On the other hand, there are also fans of Amell who are excited about his upcoming show. "Perfect Casting," wrote one person in the comments of Amell's update, while a different fan said, "absolute trust I know you’re gonna be extraordinary in it."
Suits: L.A. is set to start filming in March, and fans will have to wait and see who joins Amell in the cast of the new spinoff.
