Invincible set the world on fire when it premiered on Amazon Prime Video in March 2021, with the animated comic adaptation capturing the attention of millions and gathering a dedicated fan base almost overnight. The second season is coming up pretty soon, but if the series’ creator has anything to say about it, it definitely won’t be the last.

Invincible is a very adult superhero series, filled with a shocking amount of blood and gore that sometimes borders on a little too much but somehow manages to feel just right. It tells the story of the 17-year-old Mark Grayson, a newly-powered superhero with similar powers to Superman, who’s trying to learn the ropes from his very famous dad, Omni-Man.

In an interview with Polygon, the series’ creator Robert Kirkman talked about the future of the series, dropping heaps of details for the upcoming second season of the show. The most interesting detail was that, if Kirkman has his way, there could be six more seasons after this one.

“I’m trying not to pin it down to a number, because it is somewhat of a moving target,” Kirkman said, “I think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough. But there could be some things we move through a little faster, some things we expand.”

Kirman went on to say that he hopes to adapt the entire comic, if he’s lucky enough to get the chance, but also wants to include some original content. He says there are a few ideas that, for one reason or another, couldn’t make it into the comic that he’d like to see make it to the animated series.

Invincible season 2 finally got a release date earlier this year, in July, with the first half of the season set to be released on November 3, 2023. The second half of the season will come a little later, sometime in early 2024, but hopefully will be more on the January-February side of things rather than the April-May side.
