'It's worth the trip': Bryan Cranston urges travellers to visit Jasper when it recovers from 'devastating' wildfire
The "Breaking Bad" actor reflected on a recent trip he took to the Canadian Rockies, reminiscing about the "beautiful scenery."
Jasper is getting some love from a well-known actor. On Wednesday, "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston took to Instagram to reflect on a recent trip he took to the Canadian Rockies with wife Robin Dearden as part of their 35th anniversary. The couple travelled on the Rocky Mountaineer, saying they were "snaking through" the mountains to get to the alpine town in Alberta.
While Jasper National Park and its townsite currently faces blazes that could continue into the fall, Cranston topped off his post's caption with a note explaining their trip was right before the wildfire hit the area. "When the area recovers, they will be in great need to get up and running again and welcome tourists back to this glorious part of the world. It's worth the trip," the 68-year-old "Better Call Saul" actor wrote.
Cranston's post included several photos from his and Dearden's trip, including snapshots of them riding the train, some of the food they ate, views of the mountainous region, photos of them at their log cabin and posing by Maligne Lake.
"In Jasper, we arrived in perfect weather," Cranston reminisced. "They were expecting us at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and we had a beautiful log cabin to settle in for a couple days.
"They're not immune to forest fires and had a really bad one a few years ago. We're told this one was started by carelessness. A shame."
Wrapping up his post, Cranston explained some of the things they ate, including a "very tasty and tender" bison steak, and that they caught eye of a mother bear and her cubs while leaving the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. "Tomorrow it's on to Lake Louise. See you then," he capped off his post.
In the comments section, several Canadians expressed their happiness over Cranston visiting up north. Other fans also matched the actor's comedic energy.
"We loved helping you celebrate your anniversary! We thought you looked familiar," the official Rocky Mountaineer Instagram account posted.
"Thank you for showing love to Jasper and what has happened," someone added.
"This is one of the trains I've wanted to take! The Ocean, then The Canadian, then Rocky Mountaineer," someone else shared.
"So happy you're enjoying our beautiful country! Keep moving east!!" one person quipped.
This isn't the first time Cranston has shown love to Western Canada. In late July, he took to social media with another post, letting fans know the area is "absolutely stunning" and that he'd be documenting his and his wife's journey on their wedding anniversary trip.
"From the metropolitan setting of the vibrant Vancouver, to the Wild West town of Calgary, and all the magnificent scenery of the Canadian National Parks in between. Come along for a little arm-chair traveling with my wife, Robin and I, as I document our journey over the next few days to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary," he wrote in his July 24 post.
However, their trip didn't seem to start according to plan. Their flight from Los Angeles to Vancouver was delayed by more than eight hours, Cranston wrote, noting they decided to grab the next one out to Seattle. There, they stayed overnight at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, exploring some of the city's sights like the Pike Place Market and the original Starbucks location.
"We took a sea plane the next morning to the Canadian city. What fun that is," he continued. "While at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, the staff placed a bottle of champagne and a personalized chocolate treat for when we arrived in the beautiful room. ... Tomorrow, it's on to Jasper by train."
