J.Law on Chris Pratt Affair Rumor
Jennifer Lawrence, still press touring hard, did an interview with KISS UK where she had the opportunity to set the record straight on the "best rumor" about her. So she chose to make the obvious clear: her relationship with Chris Pratt, her Passengers costar, was never anything more than friendly - and was definitely not why his and Anna Faris' marriage ultimately did not work out. "I mean, I never had an affair with Chris Pratt on Passengers. Yeah, [that was a rumor for a bit]," Lawrence said. "They got a divorce like two years later and everybody was like, ‘JENNIFER LAWRENCE,’ and I was like, ‘What?! I’m in Montreal, two years later... ’" Pratt and Lawrence shot Passengers from September 2015 to February 2016. Pratt and Faris announced their separation in August 2017.
Faris wrote about the rumors of Pratt and Lawrence's affair in her book Unqualified - and how before anything could have plausibly happened, Faris was warned reports would inevitably come out. “Before they met in person, my publicist, out of the blue, pulled me aside," Faris wrote, via Us Weekly. "‘Anna, listen there are going to be paparazzi all over them,’ she said. ‘There are going to be shots of them laughing together on their way to set. There are going to be stories circulating, and you have to brace yourself for this.'” Tabloids did create affair stories, and those articles were "totally hurtful," to Faris - but not because Pratt and Lawrence did anything salacious together.
"Jennifer and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn't need to be because she hadn't done anything wrong," Faris wrote. Lawrence would go on to appear on Faris's podcast while filming too, showing the two were on good terms IRL.
And Faris and Pratt remain close too, just not romantically anymore. In their separation statement, they said they "tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed...[but] we still love each other and will always cherish our time together."
"We’ll always have each other and be incredible friends," Faris told People in October. "There is still so much laughter in our lives together, and he is so proud of me, still. We watched each other grow, and he still cracks me up all the time. And I think I crack him up - unless he’s a really good actor and great at faking laughter."
On the internet's devastation over their breakup, Faris said, "It’s understandable that people seemed so invested in our happiness together. All I can say about that is, it’s all true, that we truly adore each other, and we love each other, I think it still comes through."
