  • Jennifer Lopez wore a strapless, color-blocked Valentino ball gown to the 2020 Golden Globe Awards.

  • The unexpected style selection, which featured a massive bow, inspired a slew of Twitter memes, many of which compared Lopez's off-kilter dress choice to a holiday ensemble from Christmas past.

Jennifer Lopez is an award show regular that fashion fiends everywhere can count on to bring a look to the red carpet. But once Lopez—who's nominated for her starring role in Hustlers—arrived at this evening's Golden Globe red carpet, Twitter went wild over the unexpected style selection.

Lopez donned a strapless, Valentino ball gown with a larger-than-life green and gold bow, and paired her ensemble with emerald and diamond jewelry courtesy of Harry Winston. The Valentino design was a far cry from the body skimming, skin-revealing, and slinky silhouettes Lopez has now made her signature style statement—but tonight's look still made a statement nonetheless.

The singer and actress has worn a fair share of ball gowns and experimented with metallic creations before, but this dress's holiday-esque color blocking brought about undeniable critique saying maybe the frock shouldn’t have been made it past December. (We still love you though, J.Lo!)

Lopez's look instantly sparked hilarious social media reactions. There were comparisons to metallic-wrapped Christmas presents, Ryan Reynolds’s infamous Christmas sweater, Phoebe from Friends, mentions of lost Christmas party invitations, and just straight up laugh-out-loud-worthy commentary.

We'll let the tweets speak for themselves below.
