As Game of Thrones' final season approaches (it premieres April 2019), fans may be wondering if the White Walkers will take over Westseros, who will end up on the Iron Throne, who Azor Ahai might be, and whether, as Sophie Turner's tattoo suggests, "the pack survives." But let's not overlook the smaller, more personal conflicts. Like, what's going to happen to Jaime Lannister?

The last time we saw the complex antihero, he had just finished a tense confrontation with Cersei (his twin sister, lover, and queen) and decided to leave her. Without his sibling, with whom he's been attached at the hip since Season 1, what's in store for him?

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime, explains where his character's mind is at going into next season. "Most people have moments in their life where you go, ‘Can I really, fundamentally change?’ The core of him has always been Cersei," he told Vanity Fair.

"When that’s taken away, what are you then? What’s left? Is there anything left? When he leaves, obviously he has no idea. He doesn’t know the answer to that question," he continued.

Jaime and Cersei's last scene together was tense. The face-off ends when she appears to order that he be killed, and he responds, "I don't believe you," before storming off. Coster-Waldau explained the meaning behind his character's response: "I don't love you anymore. . . . I’m calling your bluff, and, you know, you can’t hurt me now because my heart has been destroyed by you. You can’t hurt me anymore than you already have."

But he might not have meant it. "That’s, of course, said in a moment of passion. Who knows if it’s true?" the actor added to Vanity Fair. Looks like we'll only find out the answer when GoT returns next spring.
