Katy Perry’s Feathered Grammy Dress Is Back in Black for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Co-Star
Stop trying to make this dress happen. At the premiere of Sunday in the Park With George, Annaleigh Ashford showed up in the Tom Ford gown that Katy Perry wore to the Grammys earlier this month. No big deal, right? Until you give this look a double take.
What we have here is a rare Tom Ford misstep. Mock turtleneck, ostrich feathers, metallics, sequins — there is a lot going on.
In fact, it’s unclear at first whether this is a gown or a skirt and top. Vogue, which must know what it’s talking about, referred to the item as a “top and skirt” that “symbolizes a strong woman,” when discussing Perry’s Grammys look. Even upon close inspection, it’s difficult to tell where top might end in order for skirt to take over. Two pieces, one big look.
Perry has become a big fan of color over the years, so it’s no surprise she chose the rose-gold version of this bold piece. As for Ashford’s black number, it looks like something a Golden Girl might have worn on New Year’s Eve. If that seems like something to emulate, there is a silver lining: The skirt is currently on sale at Net-a-Porter for a reduced price of $2,580. The sequined tunic top was also recently available for $2,190.
Will another celebrity continue the trend and trot this out on the Oscars red carpet Sunday? Only time will tell.
