The James Bond Aston Martin Is Up for Auction
The 1965 Aston Martin DB5 that James Bond whipped around hairpin turns on a death-defying mountainside in Monaco is going up for auction. Pierce Brosnan drove this exact car filming the 1995 007 film GoldenEye for a three-minute-long race against villain Xenia Onatopp, that, surprise, ends with him seducing his passenger-some might call it "the ultimate Bond car."
According to auction house Bonham, the current owner of the Aston bought it back in 2001 for $200,000, which was enough money to make it the most valuable piece of Bond memorabilia ever sold. That's impressive feat for a franchise that spans half a century and 25 films. Now, Bonham expects the car to go for $1.6 million to $2.1 million at the July auction.
The Aston Martin has a six-cylinder, 4.0-litre engine, a black leather interior, and beautiful design. It can still get up to 150 mph.
The proceeds from the auction don't go to charity-we can't all be the Pope auctioning off his Huracán RWD Coupé Lambo for a bunch of good causes-but they'll make the current owner very happy.
