James Charles sang a holiday jingle for his makeup routine: 'Bake your face, slap it harder'
As height of holiday season nears, the makeup inclined are starting to add a little more festive flair to their usual routines — including CoverGirl’s first male ambassador, James Charles. Instead of posting a traditional holiday makeup tutorial like so many have already, he decided to switch things up and actually sing his way through his latest adorable video.
The 18-year-old YouTube sensation kicks off Singing My Makeup Routine (Christmas Edition!) by singing his own find-me-a-cute-boy themed lyrics to the tune of “Jingle Bells” while applying foundation and concealer to his face. He belts outs funny lines such as, “Foundation, foundation, we’re covering our face. Got lots of blemishes and pimples to erase.” Then comes a “Winter Wonderland” parody, with lyrics like, “Set your face, pack the powder. Bake your face, slap it harder.”
Charles continues on with tweaked versions of “I Want a Hippopotamus,” “All I Want for Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “Mary Did You Know,” while his best friend plays the piano in the background to each. By the end of the video, he is done with his makeup routine and leaves us with well-groomed brows, winged eyeliner, peach and gold-toned eyeshadow, dramatic faux lashes, sparkling highlighter, and glossy neutral lip gloss — plus the satisfaction of having been entertained.
Since posting just a few short days ago, the video has already received over 759,000 views and 73,000 likes, with many loving his voice. One person wrote, “Why haven’t you gotten your own record label?! You sing soooo beautiful.”
As mentioned in his Christmas-themed video, this wasn’t the first time he’s sung along to his makeup routine. In August, he also released a beloved video in which he reworks the lyrics of songs from Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato.
As a bonus gift in his holiday video, Charles announces that he’ll offer 12 days of fan-thanking “give-a-slays,” which will include some of the best makeup products from 2017 as well as Apple’s popular iPhone X. Looks like somebody’s gotten into the spirit of giving!
