Jane Bond: Priyanka Chopra and Gillian Anderson Hint at Female 007

Yesterday, during a Tumblr Q&A, a fan asked Gillian Anderson, currently starring in A Streetcar Named Desire on the London stage, the best rumor she’d heard about herself. Her answer, “That I might be the next Bond,” started an Internet furor.

Next up, a fan created a mock poster with the X Files star in Skyfall, and she promptly tweeted it to her nearly 500,000 followers.

“It’s Bond. Jane Bond,” she wrote, suggesting she might make a great replacement for Daniel Craig. “Thanks for all the votes! (And sorry, don’t know who made poster but I love it!) #NextBond.”

You have to admit that if the next Bond were to be a woman, she’d be an excellent choice, and thus far, the message has 18,000 likes and nearly 8,000 retweets.

There’s long been talk of a female Bond, but whether it would actually come to fruition is very much open to debate.

Quantico star Priyanka Chopra, in a recent cover story for Complex, also expressed interest in the 007 role.

When talking about her upcoming role in Baywatch, which was originally written as a male role, she added that she keeps getting told she’d make a great Bond Girl.

“But f*** that — I wanna be Bond.”

And it does sound as if the job is soon to be vacant, with reports emerging that Craig has turned down an offer to make more two movies in the 007 series. The Daily Mail is reporting that the actor told studio bosses he was done with the role he’s played since 2005.
