Jamie Foxx addresses his relationship with Sela Vave amid Katie Holmes split
Jamie Foxx is setting the record straight about his relationship with Sela Vave amid his breakup with Katie Holmes.
It was photos of Foxx, 51, holding hands with Vave, an aspiring singer, that set off alarms that the Oscar winner had ended his longtime — but low-key — relationship with Holmes. Since then, Vave — who is either 19 or 21 — says she’s been called all kinds of names, including “home-wrecker,” and was told she “should die” for busting up the pair. According to Page Six, Vave has been living in Foxx’s Thousand Oaks, Calif., mansion.
However, in a video in an Instagram Live, which has since been posted to Vave’s page too, Foxx says he is mentoring her — as he did for Ed Sheeran, Nick Cannon and Ne-Yo back when they they were on-the-rise stars.
He said Cannon and Sheeran crashed at his house when they were trying to make it in the biz — and claims it’s a similar story with Vave.
“Here was the thing, there is a young lady by the name of Sela Vave. I did the same thing with her,” he said.
He talked about how they were introduced through another artist and Vave performed a Beyoncé song for him on the spot on his doorstep.
“She’s singing broken down Beyoncé, playing the guitar and I said ‘How the f**k did this happen?'“ he recalled. “So, we took her under our wing.”
He continued, “People try to make mountains out of molehills. We want to treat her the same way and give her the same opportunities.” And added that he warned that this could happen, saying, “I told her it’s going to be this way. It’s a double standard when it comes to women.”
As for the photos of them holding hands outside of Bootsy Bellows nightclub on Friday, “I’m escorting her to my car, to put her in the car — my artist, who hangs out with my kids and is as young as my daughter,” Foxx said, referring to his elder daughter Corinne Foxx, 25. (He is also dad to Anelise Bishop, 10.)
He went on to say that he had a conversation with Vave’s mom “and she put her trust in me. We want to make sure she has the opportunity to show you the talent we saw. All of the unnecessary hate for the woman, just because the guys are coming here and they’re working hard, but when a girl does it, she has an ulterior motive. Stop that sh**.
“I embrace all the artists [who] come here. That’s our artist. She’s been brought into the family, she works hard, and she’s a beautiful singer,” he said, adding that he’s speaking out because “we protect our own.”
Vave posted the video with the caption that said, “For the people who care... here is the TRUE story... for everyone else you can keep talking and calling me a whore, slut, home wrecker, thot, gold digger, that I should die, and what ever else you want. Because it doesn’t matter to me, I’m out here to work and do what I love most.”
Despite the clarification, the comments on the post haven’t been so kind. One said, “Everyone will remember you as the hoe who slept with Jamie Foxx for fame , no matter what you do.” Others were equally as nasty, including, “Ok, home-wrecker.”
After the photos of Foxx and Vave surfaced, sources close to Foxx and Holmes confirmed to Yahoo that they had split — apparently in May, soon after the Met Gala. They had been together for six years, since soon after Holmes split from Tom Cruise.
