Jamie Foxx Explains Why He Kept His Medical Complication Private in Video Message
Jamie Foxx offered some clarity to fans about his medical condition in a new video.
In the clip, shared on Instagram in the late evening of July 21, Foxx shared with fans why he hadn't given an update on video until now. "I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through. And I know a lot of people were waiting or wanted to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn't want you to see me like that, man," he explained.
Foxx continued, "I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show…I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through."
The actor credits his sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne for his recovery, noting that they "saved my life." He added that, "Thanks to them and to God, and to a lot of great medical people, I'm able to leave you this video."
The multi-hyphenate also addressed the secrecy surrounding his medical emergency, expressing his gratitude over his family keeping details "airtight." He noted, "They protected me and that's what I hope that everyone could have in moments like this."
However, he also acknowledged that without the public knowing specifics, it also lends for there to be misinformation spread around. "By being quiet, things get out of hand. People say what I got. Some people said I'm blind, but as you can see, the eyes are working just fine. They said I was paralyzed. I'm not paralyzed. But I did go through…I went through hell and back," he said.
Towards the end of the video, Foxx promised, "I'm coming back and I'm able to work so I want to thank people who let me work." He then finished his message thanking fans once again for their support while getting teary-eyed on camera.
Foxx captioned the video, "Thank u a billion to everybody… been a long road but all the prayers great people and God got me through…. ????????."
In the comments, many of Foxx's famous friends showed their support.
Will Smith wrote, "Awww Man!! Who’s cuttin’ onions?? Love U Foxx!! Your Light Is Needed ‘n Appreciated Right Now!" Dwayne Johnson also appeared in the comments, writing, "I'm gonna bear hug the fuck outta you when I see you again ?? ??."

The video comes a day after Foxx's fans noted their skepticism over his recovery when he teased with a promotional photo that there were "big things coming." Many fans demanded to see proof he's actually well, with some even going as far as sharing conspiracy theories in the comments.
