Jamie Foxx Shuts Down Dating Rumors After Katie Holmes Breakup
Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx reportedly ended their six year relationship in May, although it only surfaced to public knowledge recently.
According to different sources to different news outlets, Holmes and Foxx’s split may be due to industry pressures, distance, or simply irreconcilable differences.
Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus aren’t the only ones going through it. Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx, who allegedly split in May, made recent headlines when reports of their early summer breakup surfaced. It’s unsurprising that their separation quietly passed for months without any media outlets picking it up, as the two were famously hush-hush about their relationship. Now, we’ve rounded up everything we know thus far about why Holmes and Foxx split.
Their separation came on the heels of their first official red carpet debut together, where Holmes and Foxx attended the 2019 Met Gala, but breakup rumors first emerged when Foxx was photographed holding hands with 21-year-old singer, Sela Vave, in August.
However, in a recent Instagram video, Foxx addresses the dating speculation between him and Vave, claiming that their relationship is solely that of a mentor and mentee. Foxx, who also mentored musicians Nick Cannon and Ed Sheeran during the start of their careers, said, "It's a double standard when it comes to women—when it was the guys, everything is cool. But, when it was the women, they try to make it something else, but we are going to try to protect our own. And like I said, I spoke to that girl's mom and she put her trust in me."
Vave posted Foxx's video on her own Instagram, writing in the caption, "For the people who care... here is the TRUE story(swipe)... for everyone else you can keep talking and calling me a whore, slut, home wrecker, thot, gold digger, that I should die, and what ever else you want. Because it doesn’t matter to me, I’m out here to work and do what I love most. #music#killthedoublestandard."
A source at Page Six divulged that Holmes and Foxx's relationship trouble started after an early summer lovers' spat. Apparently, the two were set to vacation in Montauk together over Memorial Day weekend when “Katie called two hours before he was supposed to get on a plane from LA to NYC and canceled. He was really upset.”
However, a different Page Six source challenged that narrative. “Katie was supposed to go to Montauk to join Jamie, but he did something s–tty at the last minute, and that was that," the source said. "He canceled on his own and never got on the plane.”
In contrast, an insider for People suggested that there’s no ill will between the two. “It ran its course. This industry is very tough on relationships,” the insider said. “Jamie thinks Katie is an incredible human being. They had a very, very deep connection. They brought each other a lot of joy and laughter.”
At Entertainment Tonight, a source also added that Holmes and Foxx “never had a typical relationship. They have always been incredibly independent and their lives didn't revolve around each other. They lived separately and in different cities and saw each other occasionally." The couple split, then, because they're "just both caught up with their own families, careers and obligations that their relationship had to take a back seat."
A source at Us hinted at some lingering resentment between Holmes and Foxx. “It has been many years of him stepping out with other women,” the source said. “He’s disrespectful and their lives were different. His partying ways don’t fit with hers as she’s focused on raising her daughter and working.”
The ultra-private former couple has not yet publicly addressed their breakup.
