Jamie Lee Curtis Honors Daughter Ruby on Trans Visibility Day
"On this trans visibility day my daughter and I are visible."
Jamie Lee Curtis celebrated International Transgender Day of Visibility by honoring her daughter Ruby Guest.
In an Instagram post, she wrote about the importance of being an ally to the trans community.
"Love is love. A mother's love knows no judgment," the Oscar winner wrote. "As a mother, I stand in total solidarity with my children as they move forward in the universe as their authentic selves with their own minds and bodies and ideas. On this trans visibility day my daughter and I are visible."
Curtis also shared a reel from non-binary activist and writer Alok-Vaid Menon on her Instagram Story.
"Trans and gender non-confirming people are saying 'Hey everyone, I want to be able to exist. I want to be able to walk outside without being spat on. I want to be able to live and not fear dying. I want to be able to wear what I'm wearing and not be called brave," Menon said in the clip from podcast Man Enough.
They continued, "I want to be able to actually have people regard my humanity, not some one dimension trope that they're getting from these racist and transphobic algorithms. And people are saying that's a threat? Darling, the threat is a system that made you mistake your latent disassociation as a personality. That's the treat."
Curtis had previously spoken about supporting Guest in an interview with People.
"I am here to support Ruby," Curtis said. "That is my job. Just as it is to care and love and support her older sister Annie in her journeys. I'm a grateful student. I'm learning so much from Ruby. The conversation is ongoing. But I want to know: How can I do this better?"
Guest added at the time, "You've done the most you can, and that's all I want. Helping others is something everyone should do. I don't think it's only our household thing. It should be a human thing."
