[This post contains spoilers about the Jane the Virgin episode, “Chapter Eighty-Five.”]

In perhaps the most surprising Jane the Virgin plot twist of all time, it appears that Jane and Petra’s friendship has blossomed into an around-the-clock relationship advice service. Although it’s hilarious to watch these two throwback martinis and share slurred guidance, there’s one bomb I’d love to drop into a group chat with Jane and Petra; walk away from both Rafael and Michael.

For context, I have been Team Rafael since the first season. He’s incredibly dreamy and impossibly patient. I was extremely flustered to see Michael (Jason?) return, and had been keeping my fingers crossed that his memory would never come back so that Jane and Raf could live happily ever after.

But when Rafael was hit with a wave of memories from all of the times Jane couldn’t decide between the two men, I experienced a total paradigm shift, too. I was so relieved when he told her to leave, because it made me realize that Jane shouldn’t be with either of them.

I’m a firm believer in the cheesy, Pinterest-quote idea that if you find yourself in love with two people, you’re not actually in love with the first one. (Can’t lie...I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this on one of Khloe Kardashian’s cryptic Instagram stories.) In Jane's case, this is more like, "if you find yourself in love with two people that you keep bouncing between, you're definitely not in love with either one." You get the idea.

Sure, Jane’s circumstances were totally wild-it’s pretty rare to become accidentally artificially inseminated with a hot guy’s baby, and even rarer for your husband to "come back from the dead"-but, still.

Jane's uncertainty following Michael's return shows that as long as the two men are alive and in her life, she's going to be flip-flopping between them. Team Raf needs to realize that it's a massive red flag that Michael needed to be fake-killed for Jane to comfortably commit to Rafael.

On the other hand, Team Michael should see that if he was really Jane's soulmate, she wouldn't have to agonize over what to do upon his seemingly impossible return. Like, you're telling me that your "soulmate" just returned FROM THE DEAD and you're still like, "yeah, I'm going to have to make a pros and cons list first, BRB." Sounds pretty sus to me!

I get that Jane has been presented with the most difficult decision ever, but she needs to stop wasting everyone's time and find a relationship that she doesn't have to reassess every five minutes. All three of them (and Mateo!) deserve more security than that. For the entire series, she's been rambling on about "fate," but maybe she's just using that as an excuse to remain stuck in the same place forever. Jane should not be locked into a situation just because she stumbled upon it in a way that felt magical. Once she cuts off Michael and Rafael, she will be totally free from forced relationships, and can finally choose her own life. Her destiny isn't sealed, and she'll be happier when she can see that.

Hopefully, Rafael asking Jane to leave (are we calling this a breakup?) will put everything in perspective for her. What's she going to do now? Run to Michael, just because Raf isn't an option anymore? She better not! Both of these guys deserve to be with someone who treats them better than a fallback plan, and Jane deserves a man who she doesn't need to second guess.
