Janelle Monáe grabbed all the right type of attention when she made her debut on the 92nd annual Oscars red carpet this evening.
The "Make Me Feel" singer absolutely stunned in a sexy and shimmering silk lamé Ralph Lauren gown complete with a skin baring open back, long sleeves, floor-length hem, and an attached, draped hood. According to WWD executive editor Booth Moore, the custom A-line creation was constructed with over 168,000 Swarovski crystals and demanded over 600 hours of hand embroidery in order to complete the jaw-dropping look.
Monáe's headpiece concealed her signature, onyx-hued strands, but she did allow a sliver of bangs to peek out from beneath the cowl. She also opted for a tear-drop crystal choker to accessorize the ensemble. Monáe paired the show-stopping dress with pared-down makeup, opting for fresh, old Hollywood-inspired beauty. She wore strong, brushed brows, glittery black cat-eye liner, flushed cheeks, and matte red lipstick.
Monáe is scheduled to deliver a "special performance" at this evening's Oscars ceremony—joining other performers lined up for this evening including Billie Eilish, Elton John and Idina Menzel. She also appeared in 2019's Harriet, whose star Cynthia Erivo is nominated for Best Actress this year.
