Jason Momoa Says 'It's Not Looking Good' for Future 'Aquaman' Movies

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters next week, and fans of the DC Comics superhero are excited to see Jason Momoa back in the water. It's been five years since the first Aquaman movie came out, and Momoa has big ideas for the series down the line. But, he recently admitted he doesn't know if they'll ever see the light of day.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Fast X star pondered the future of the Aquaman film franchise. He confessed that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom might be the last entry in the series.

"I don’t necessarily want it to be the end... [but] I don’t think it's really, like, a choice," he said honestly. DC Studios CEO James Gunn and producer Peter Safran were recruited to lead the DC Cinematic Universe into the future, and Momoa said plainly that they're looking to "start their own new thing up."

Momoa hasn't lost all hope of playing Aquaman again in the future, but he was realistic with his expectations. "The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there's a possibility," the Hawaii native said. "But right now, I’m like, 'It's not looking too good.'"

"I love this character and [I would want to] play it for a long time," he continued. "I kind of see where I would want it to go. And even in the next 10 years or so, like there's a lot of cool things they can do. And I do enjoy the role and the world. So, I mean, it just comes down to if people love it."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is in theaters Dec. 22.
