The future of Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright's marriage is still uncertain as the premiere of their new show, The Valley, approaches.
The former couple, who announced their separation in late February, are set to star on the Vanderpump Rules spinoff series, which follows a group of close friends living in Los Angeles and navigating their businesses, relationships and families.
"We're doing fine," Brittany, 35, exclusively tells Parade of where she and Jax, 44, stand today. "I think the space is necessary right now. I just want [our son] Cruz to have a happy home and I think that's the most important thing right now. So he's No. 1. We go to things for Cruz. We just went to the zoo the other day, the three of us. So look, we're still able to do things like that, but the space is definitely necessary right now, and to figure out what we're going to do for our future."
As for whether she could see them reuniting, the reality star says, "I don't know if we would get back together, [or] if we would go through a divorce. We haven't decided anything like that yet, but I'm doing OK. I have my hard days, for sure, but at the end of the day, I just think like, 'OK, we got to just figure things out. I got to put myself first for once and my son first,' so that's what matters."
Jax, on the other hand, kept things mum, telling Parade, "Everything is pretty amicable right now. I don't really want to talk about my marriage."
The former Vanderpump Rules stars aren't the only pair on the new spinoff show going through a rocky time in their relationship. Costars Jesse Lally and Michelle Saniei Lally, who share a 3-year-old daughter named Isabella Bunny, announced their own separation earlier this month after nearly 6 years of marriage.
That split, however, may have been been more predictable to their inner circle. "They had been having a hard time in their relationship, even before we started filming, so it wasn't a surprise at all," Brittany says. "And I'm very happy for Michelle. She's so much happier now, and that's all that matters."
Jax agreed, separately telling Parade, "[Their] situation is completely different than mine, but you'll have to see that on the show. Things are going to happen regardless of the cameras are here or not. They just kind of fell in line with everything that's going on, and there's stuff going on right now and the cameras aren't going, so [production is] stressing out about that."
According to ET, Bravo has actually picked cameras back up to catch what's currently transpiring in their lives.
"Things just happen in this world that we live in – the 'Vanderpump Valley' world – this is just the way it is," Jax adds. "Whether the camera's here or not."
The Valley, which also stars fellow Pump Rules alum Kristen Doute, premieres on Bravo Tuesday, March 19 at 9/8c.
