Former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager marked one year after her grandmother's passing with a sweet and simple Instagram post.

The image featured a photo of Barbara Bush smiling, surrounded by a blue and white border. Her name was written in cursive script at the bottom, following by her dates. "Missing you Ganny today and everyday," Bush Hager wrote. She went on to use a family nickname for Barbara Bush, "the enforcer." "One year without our enforcer-hard [to] believe. You made us better and we love you more than tongue can tell."

Barbara Bush died on April 17, 2018, at the age of 92. Her husband George H.W. Bush passed away months later, on November 30.

Wednesday morning on the Today show, where Bush Hager is a co-host, she took the opportunity to reflect on her grandmother's legacy. "I just am so proud to have had a grandmother who lived fearlessly," she said. "Her life wasn’t always easy, but she raised us to be better. Even now, when I’m about to do something impulsive, I think, ‘Would my grandmother like that?’ And usually if the answer’s no, I hold back."

Bush Hager went on to explain a bit about why Barbara Bush had earned the name "the enforcer," for her reputation of bringing down the hammer when she felt it was necessary. "She was such a force," Bush Hager said. "She made us all better," she added, before finishing with a personal message. "Ganny, if you’re watching, I love you."
