Jennifer Garner's eldest daughter, Violet Affleck, made a rare appearance last night on her 17th birthday. The mother-daughter duo attended the state dinner at the White House, hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden to welcome French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron.
It was the first state dinner of the Biden administration, and the guest list was packed with stars. As they entered into the White House, they held hands.
The two coordinated in glamorous black gowns; Jennifer Garner opted for a floor-length velvet Ralph Lauren dress, whereas Violet chose a metallic heart-jacquard midi dress by Carolina Herrera. Violet finished her outfit with red heels.
The evening at the White House was a rare public appearance for Garner and Violet, who she shares with her ex, Ben Affleck. (They also have 13-year-old Seraphina and 10-year-old Samuel.) Violet last appeared in public with her mom in 2018, when Garner received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During his honeymoon in Paris with new wife Jennifer Lopez, Violet joined her dad.
"I have no reason not to be nice. My life is lovely," Garner opened up Town & Country in our November 2022 philanthropy issue. But, she adds, "I’m not always just nice. I can also be salty, and I can be taciturn, or I can be really serious about what I want to get done. It’s not that I feel I’m underestimated in that way—I’m not afraid to stand up for myself and say, ‘Just so you know, this isn’t going to fly with me.’ When that happens, I don’t want you to be shocked that I’m a real person."
The very "real person" was one of 300+ guests at the White House last night with her daughter. Other guests included Stephen Colbert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Legend, and Christian Louboutin.
It's sure to be a birthday to remember for Violet.
