While she seems like someone you’d click with the moment you officially met, you may want to proceed with caution. Actress Jennifer Lawrence is rude to fans — and for a good reason.

Lawrence explained her behavior for Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” video series, where she was interviewed by comedian and actor Adam Sandler for a little over 30 minutes. The two were able to have a pretty candid conversation about how to handle negative movie reviews, and less-than-ideal fan interactions.

Sandler admitted that he gets “some love on the streets” every day, which Lawrence could relate to. He even said that people often pull up a chair while he’s out in public, or feel the need to ask him for a selfie. While Lawrence understood his story, she admitted it’s much harder for comedians when they see fans — despite the fact that she’s, as Sandler referred to her, “famously light and approachable.”

“Once I enter a public place, I become incredibly rude,” Lawrence stated. “That’s like my only defense.”

We can understand where she’s coming from — since she’s so likable on screen and during interviews, some fans must feel as if she’d be down for a spontaneous chat, or an impromptu hug — forgetting that they’re technically a stranger in Lawrence’s eyes.

She admitted that it’s even worse when she’s out with her buddy Amy Schumer. While she’s fine with taking her dog out for walks in the park, she said that things end up getting chaotic when Schumer meets up with them.

This isn’t the first time that Lawrence has discussed being a little distant while out in public.

“I think that people [strangers] think that we already are friends because I am famous and they feel like they already know me, but I don’t know them,” she said to The Daily Telegraph. “I have to protect my bubble, like, ‘I have a weird job — don’t let this be a reality.'”

So, even if you manage to have a Jennifer Lawrence sighting in the near future, you might want to back away — while it’s always cool to see celebrities, you may end up making things a little awkward for the both of you.
