Jennifer Lawrence opened up about the hardest part about dating Darren Aronofsky
Pop-culture aficionados like ourselves will likely already know that actress Jennifer Lawrence and director Darren Aaronofsky officially ended their relationship after a year of dating. And now, Lawrence has revealed the worst part about dating Aronofsky in a newly-published conversation with Adam Sandler for Variety.
And tbh, we totally get it.
For those who don’t know, the pair met on the set of their film Mother!, which Aronofsky wrote and directed and Jennifer Lawrence starred. Lawrence has spoken publicly about how she considers Aronofsky to be a creative “genius,” and has praised him for being wildly intelligent, but not pretentious.
“I normally don’t like Harvard people, because they can’t go two minutes without mentioning that they went to Harvard,” Lawrence said in a September interview with Vogue. “He’s not like that.”
However, that didn’t mean their relationship was always easy. Lawrence noted that she normally doesn’t like to read reviews of her movies, but it was impossible when she was literally dating the director.
“Dating the director was different, because we’d be on the tour together. I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie. He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about. I get it; it’s his baby. He wrote it; he conceived it; he directed it. I was doing double duty trying to be supportive partner while also being like, “Can I please, for the love of God, not think about ‘Mother!’ for one second.”
She continued, “And then he would start reading me reviews, and I finally was like, ‘It’s not healthy. I’m not going to do it, because if I read it, I start getting defensive.'”
As much as we like to fantasize about being one-half of a famous Hollywood power couple, in reality, this actually sounds super stressful, and we totally get where Lawrence is coming from. Because working with your romantic partner can be tough no matter who you are.
