I’m immediately buying both.
Despite some initial trepidation, ballet flats were mostly welcomed back with open arms. Is the arch support great? No. But do they elevate everything in your wardrobe? Yes, and as such, they’re a style I find myself wearing over and over again due to the ease with which they make my basic outfits look chic. But despite being a ballet flat-obsessee, I’d yet to be convinced that the newest version was something I wanted—that was until Jennifer Lawrence recently re-wore it.
Last weekend, the actress stepped out in mesh Mary Jane flats, the controversial footwear style Hollywood loves. She wore the black, see-through shoes with red socks underneath, a color she carried over into her bag. And while that thoughtful detail honestly sold me (I love a matchy moment), I was also amazed at how fresh the shoes made her classic pants look. The entire outfit was the perfect reminder that I both need to grab some new white jeans ahead of summer and that, if you’re going to try something controversial, pair it with something safe.

Levi’s Wedgie Straight Jeans
If you’re looking for one of the most classic versions of the timeless summer style, make sure to grab these Levi’s jeans while they’re on sale for $62 at Amazon. The Wedgie style not only has an always-in straight-leg silhouette, but it’s also become famous for its flattering and booty-boosting fit. One person wrote that the jeans hug and accentuate “all the right places,” while another customer was equally impressed with how the style shapes the butt rather than flattens it, calling the fit “perfect.”
Jeffrey Campbell Mesh Mary Jane Flat
Jeffrey Campbell’s take on this trending footwear style is half-off at Nordstrom right now. The flats are designed with a sheer mesh exterior, leather trim, and a small strap across the center—and while black gets you Lawrence’s look, these are also available in seven other colors. While many shoppers love the look of these shoes, a number were also impressed with how well-made the style is, with one person noting that despite being lightweight, they’re surprisingly “structured…and not flimsy.” Of course, others were just happy to have a new summer shoe that’s as airy as a sandal but with a more elevated look, with someone writing that they “can’t wait to wear them in the summer as a breezy option for hot days.”
Madewell the Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Crop Jeans
Madewell’s wide-leg Perfect Vintage jeans are my tried-and-true denim style, so I’m of course eyeing this white pair for summer. I love the relaxed but not baggy fit—which one person noted gives the right amount of room in the thighs—as well as the raw hem that adds to the lived-in look. Plus, these are “the perfect cropped length,” according to shoppers, with someone even writing that it’s “perfect for displaying a cute pair of shoes.” Like say, ohhh, some mesh ballet flats?
