Jennifer Lopez's Simple Wedding Band Is a Timeless Choice
It's official. After two decades, countless high profile romances (and splits) in between, one infamous pink diamond, and a very rare green one, Bennifer made it down the aisle at last. Jennifer Affleck, née Lopez, broke the news to her 218 million Instagram followers earlier this summer, though of course only her true fans—as in the ones who subscribe to her newsletter, On the JLo—were privy to the details of her Las Vegas elopement with Ben Affleck.
"We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient," Lopez wrote in the newsletter, along with photos and videos from their midnight affair at the Little White Wedding Chapel. The groom wore a white tuxedo jacket. His bride wore two dresses, one "from an old movie" and another from Zuhair Murad’s bridal collection. And for their larger wedding celebration at Affleck's Georgia mansion in late August, she opted for a white gown from Ralph Lauren.
As for the jewels they slipped over each other's fingers as symbols of love everlasting? J.Lo's taste for extravagant engagement rings has been well-documented. She has received six of them after all. But perhaps so as not to take the spotlight away from the very, very large Dresden Green diamond—one of the rarest colored diamonds in the world—that she received from Ben in April mid-bubble bath, Mrs. Affleck opted for a simple white gold band.
She is in excellent company. Four generations of Windsor women, including Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, Princess Diana, Camilla, and Kate, have famously worn thin plain bands, theirs crafted of Welsh gold, a family tradition started by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. American royalty Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy favored the style, too. In other words, gold bands are the OGs of wedding rings. They telegraph elegance, timelessness, class. And for J.Lo, there is also the added benefit that white gold really lets the minty green of that engagement diamond shine. As for those devoted fans of hers who couldn't get their hands on Dresden Green ice, which are near-impossible to find? Here's the next best thing.
