'Jeopardy!' Fans Are Livid and “Sad” After Contestants' “Worst Showing Ever”

If competing on the beloved game show Jeopardy! is on your bucket list, you’ll want to brush up on your American history first — if you don't, you might face some intense backlash from Jeopardy! viewers.

Case in point on Tuesday’s episode, which was guest hosted by Big Bang Theory actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik. When contestant Robin Lozano chose the “Quotations” category for $800 during a round of Double Jeopardy, the clue read: "'Government of the people, by the people, for the people' is from the end of this brief but powerful speech.”

Seconds quickly passed before the buzzer went off. It turns out, neither Robin nor her fellow competitors Kevin Hirsh and Dominic Rios knew the correct answer. While Maiym revealed that the line was from President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and moved onto the next clue, folks watching from home didn’t easily forget the moment.

“Not know the Gettysburg Address?? Worst showing ever. None of these 3 deserved to win tonight,” one person wrote. “I’m gonna pretend like I just didn’t see ALL THREE contestants miss ‘the Gettysburg Address’ just now,” another added. “How did #Jeopardy manage to find three contestants who don't recognize the closing line of the Gettysburg Address? This isn't Elementary Jeopardy, folks,” a different fan said. “Wow, no one knew The Gettysburg Address. That made me sad,” a follower commented.

It just goes to show you that even when a fact may seem fairly basic, it can still catch you off guard from time to time. But hey, it happens! Besides, Robin, Kevin and Dominic still managed to do pretty darn well and answer some tough questions during Tuesday's show. It's time to move on and focus on enjoying the rest of this week's competition (and Mayim's amazing guest hosting skills).
