New Jersey cops finally arrest man who routinely dumped dirty diapers in public because it was 'funny'
A Newfield, N.J., man built a reputation for himself by dropping bags of dirty diapers at different Franklin Township intersections for nearly 10 months. Now, his dirty deeds have finally caught up with him.
William Friedman, 68, was spotted by police dropping a load at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in Malaga, according to the Courier Post.
“He would do it at least three times a week at different intersections,” Lt. Matthew DeCesari of the Franklin Township Police Department told the news outlet. “He would do it a couple of months in one area and then move to a different intersection. We could never get a time down.”
It was Officer Garrett Moretti who picked up the poopy pattern and followed his instincts. While he was patrolling the area of routes 47 and 40 on Sunday morning, he spotted Friedman.
Moretti witnessed Friedman dropping a load of soiled diapers in the intersection. After a traffic stop, Friedman was taken to police headquarters.
“He admitted to dropping these bags multiple times at multiple different intersections throughout the past 10 months,” according to the affidavit.
DeCesari said the suspect claimed that the diapers belonged to his grandson. “He said it almost became a game because sometimes he saw the officer sitting in an area and would go somewhere else.”
Police believe Friedman’s motive was that “this was funny, which it’s not,” said DeCesari.
In fact, a motorcyclist got into an accident because of the slippery diapers. His bike was totaled, and he suffered minor injuries.
Friedman faces fines of up to $1,000 in connection with nine township ordinances, which hopefully will prevent any copycats from repeating this dirty deed.
