Jessica Chastain donates to fertility treatment fund for woman who disagreed with her pro-choice views
An Instagram post and a polite debate over abortion rights has resulted in Jessica Chastain‘s donating $2,000 to a couple’s GoFundMe for fertility treatments.
In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Molly’s Game actress posted a photo celebrating her feminist beliefs.

Chastain’s post prompted a fan, Karin Schulz, to clarify in the comments section that while she considered herself a feminist, her religious views and opposition to abortion were just as important to her.
“Yes feminist that believes in God and stands up for the unborn,” she wrote. “I would be for that kind of feminist.”
The Oscar-nominated star gave a measured reply that showed respect for Schulz’s view, even though Chastain is pro-choice. She also noted a GoFundMe link in Schulz’s Instagram bio, which seeks to raise funds for fertility treatments following her and her husband’s struggle to conceive.
“Yes you can decide what is right for you,” Chastain wrote Schulz. “I am pro-choice and I believe that everyone has the right to make their own decision. I read about your journey to become a mother and it broke my heart. I hope that your dream will come true in 2018! Much love to you.”
She then put her money where her mouth is by making a $2,000 donation and leaving this message: “You’ll be wonderful parents who teach love by example. Some day you’ll hold your baby. Don’t give up.”
Chastain’s generosity — and focus on finding common ground with Schulz rather than clashing over their differing takes on abortion — has won praise on social media.

Chastain also made headlines in January when costar Octavia Spencer revealed that Chastain used her influence to ensure that both women made the same salary for their next film.
