Jessica Mulroney's 'I Do, Redo' Wedding Planning Show Canceled on CTV, Up in the Air at Netflix
Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney hosts I Do, Redo, a reality series that gives married couples a second chance at their dream weddings. Mulroney, a close friend of Meghan Markle's (and as her rumored royal wedding advisor), has seen her popularity and influence grow alongside the Duchess's.
However, after lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter detailed her experiences with Mulroney in a 12-minute video on Instagram (more on that here), Mulroney announced that she will "step away" from professional engagements for a time, including appearances on Good Morning America, among others. Below, how this will affect I Do, Redo—and what we know about the series itself.
CTV has dropped the show; Netflix has yet to comment.
After lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter detailed her experiences with Mulroney, Canadian network CTV announced that I Do, Redo—which it had premiered back in March, ahead of its planned release in the US on Netflix—had been removed from their platforms. "Because recent conduct by one of our shows [sic] hosts, Jessica Mulroney conflicts with our commitment to diversity and equality, CTV has removed "I DO REDO" from all Bell Media channels and platforms effective immediately," the channel's statement read.
Mulroney said, "I respect the decision of CTV and have decided to step away from my professional engagements at this time. I'm going to take this time to reflect, learn and focus on my family."
According to People, Netflix has yet to comment, or disclose if it still plans to release the series.
This wedding-themed reality show has a twist.
Rather than help young couples plan their dream event on the first go-round, Mulroney's series will feature those who didn't have a perfect big day, and then plan a "re-do" wedding.
"We are aiming to make a significant difference in the lives of our chosen couples whose first weddings did not go as planned due to tragic circumstances," Mulroney said in press release. "This is a side of the wedding industry that has never been shown on television before."
In a video posted on Instagram, Mulroney explains that she's been asked to do TV shows before and turned them down, but this felt different. "I really wanted to show a side of weddings that I believe in. I connect with couples all the time in such a real way," she explained. "And although a lot of shows are very fun and exciting," Mulroney said, referencing series about "bridezillas" and "caddy behavior," that was "not what I want to show."
She went on, "I want to show something real, something where we can help couples who’ve had a rough go, and really give them something that they deserve."
There's a trailer.
"Your wedding day should be one of the highlights of your life," Mulroney says in a voiceover, "but sometimes, things don't go as planned. That's where I come in, helping couples and families re-do that special day they've always dreamt of." Meanwhile, footage of several happy couples walking down the aisle—presumably thanks to Mulroney's help—teases what's to come.
