Jessica Simpson may have revealed her baby's name — and everyone's hating on it
A little “birdie” may have spilled the name Jessica Simpson has chosen for the baby girl she’s expecting.
The 38-year-old singer and fashion entrepreneur celebrated the upcoming arrival of her third child with a baby shower attended by sister Ashlee Simpson Ross and pal CaCee Cobb. The expectant Simpson wore a white lace dress and a floral headdress to the event, while guests arrived in flowing floral-print dresses.
One decorating detail — a neon sign reading “Birdie’s Nest” — left little wonder as to what the bundle of joy will be named. Given that Simpson, who is already mom to 6-year-old daughter Maxwell and 5-year-old son Ace, repeated the “Birdie’s Nest” phrase throughout her social media posts, fans are banking on her second daughter being named Birdie. And they’re not too happy about it.

Some critics accused Simpson of “copying” WWE wrestler Brie Bella, who gave birth to daughter Birdie Joe in May 2017. Actress and talk show host Busy Philipps — who liked Simpson’s baby shower posts — also named her older daughter Birdie.
Others just plain didn’t like the name, with one wondering if it would have “a negative effect on a kid long-term.”
“Please don’t name the girl Birdie,” read one comment.
“Please tell me that poor baby is not going to be named Birdie,” another person wrote.
“Birdie is f*****g ridiculous,” added another commenter. “Poor kid.”

Simpson — who announced her pregnancy last September — had her supporters, however. Many slammed the name-shaming and defended Birdie as an “adorable” old-fashioned name.
“I can’t believe how rude people are being,” one fan wrote. “Choosing a name for a child must be difficult enough without insensitive people slating it.”
“‘Bird’ is a term of endearment where I’m from,” wrote another commenter. “I’m always calling my little girl ‘Birdie.’ If people can’t say anything kind then they shouldn’t say anything at all.”
“If it’s not your child why do you care what someone else names THEIR child?!” added a fan.
Simpson is hardly a newcomer to getting grief over her baby names. She and husband Eric Johnson raised eyebrows when they named their first daughter Maxwell Drew, with critics claiming the name was too masculine for a little girl.
