Jessica Simpson Responds to Backlash Over Her Appearance
The singer is addressing concerns head-on.
Jessica Simpson is sharing her thoughts amid concerns for her well-being.
It all started when Pottery Barn Kids released a campaign on Instagram featuring Simpson, who was showing off the decor and styling behind her three-year-old daughter Birdie's room. Shortly after the clip was published, fans began to express their concern over her appearance and speech.
Simpson, however, didn't sit by idly, addressing the backlash with her own Instagram post in which she penned a lengthy note about how she felt "compassion for the opinionated hate" that comes from social media.
"As much as I have learned to block out destructive noise … peoples' comments and judgements can still hurt deeply with their incessant nagging 'you will never be good enough,'" she wrote. "The most important thing I have learned through the last 5 yrs without alcohol being a guard for escapism, is that I CAN and ALWAYS WILL get through it. I am capable of pretty much anything I care enough about to put my mind to. I am present. I am deeply inspired. I am determined. I am honest. I care about other people."
Simpson went on to say that she knows what works for her, stating that she needs to "let go and simply sing while lookin directly inside the mirror, straight in my eyes to really see and understand myself. I can connect with my heartbeat. I am stable and strong. I am home."

The pop star has been open about her drug and alcohol abuse after speaking up about her issues in her memoir, Open Book, that released in 2020.
In the Instagram video addressing the online hate, she also sings a heartfelt rendition of her 2020 ballad "Party of One," which was a track on the memoir. The lyrics include: "Look in the mirror/ Straight in my eyes/ Tell myself I'm not broken/ Just 'cause I cry/ It's a love song/ Party of one."
